Bill Murray just gave us the greatest gift we never knew we needed – a recreation of his 1993 cult classic, Groundhog Day.

Groundhog Day coincided with the Super Bowl this year so naturally, Bill teamed up with Jeep to deliver a surprisingly fantastic advert promoting the American football event.

In it, the 69-year-old actor reprises his iconic role as Phil Connors and is joined by his co-stars Brian Doyle Murray and Stephen Tobolowsky as Mayor Buster Green and Ned Ryerson.

There’s no Andie MacDowell, sadly, but you can’t have it all, can you?

The commercial – shot in Woodstock, Illinois, where the film was made – kicks off with Phil being woken every morning by Sonny & Cher crooning I Got You Babe on the radio.

And there’s more recreations of memorable scenes from the comedy, including Phil being harassed by Ned every day.

But there’s a twist.

In the ad, Phil is saved from Ned by a Jeep, parked majestically in the distance. He steals the groundhog, lets it drive the new truck and huzzah, he’s free.

And there’s more.

Rather than get all down in the dumps about being stuck in the same old time loop (we hate it when that happens), Phil leaps out of bed every morning so he can drive the groundhog somewhere new.

We almost imploded with joy at the arcade scene, in which Phil knocks moles over the head in the game Whac-A-Mole, as his furry pal watches disapprovingly from the side.

Phil turns apologetically to his mate and insists: ‘It’s not personal! It’s just a game.’

They also round off one memorable day by watching fireworks in the back of the truck, with a chipper Phil remarking: ‘Not a bad day, huh?’

We actually can’t.
