Bill Bailey has begun his charity walk to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of the late comedian Sean Lock.

Comedian and TV star Bailey is setting off on a 100-mile trek in honour of his beloved friend, with the pair having often gone on walks and hikes together.

The star has been joined on the road by some of Lock’s friends and family, including fellow funnyman Lee Mack.

As part of the seven-day walk from Bude in Cornwall to Combe Martin in Devon – which according to Bailey was one of his and Lock’s favourite routes – the group plan to ‘celebrate his life while doing something he loved so much’.

Posting updates to his JustGiving page now that the walk has begun, this week Bailey shared a snap of himself and Mack in the glorious sprawling countryside with the sea in the distance.

Both comedians were beaming for the camera as they remembered their friend, who died almost a full year ago, on 16 August 2021.

Earlier on the same day, Bailey shared a group photo of all those walking in Lock’s memory, everyone throwing their hands up in to the air as they prepared to take off.

He captioned it: ‘We’re off! 100 miles for Macmillan Cancer Support.’

The late comedian’s beloved friends have already raised an incredible £68,000 for the vital charity, despite having just set off, with the JustGiving page active for several weeks.

Bailey previously spoke of his plan for the charity walk on This Morning, where he told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that being in the outdoors was one of Lock’s favourite things.

‘We used to walk for miles,’ he recalled. ‘We’d talk about everything. Sean was brilliant company.’

Remembering his friend, Bailey described Lock as being ‘totally original and unique’ and as ‘funny offstage as much as on’.

He was ‘very genuine, a very loyal friend and great confidante’.

Following Lock’s death last year, Bailey told ITV News that they ‘tried to make the most of the last few years’.

He told the programme: ‘We spent a lot of time together and went on trips together. And he’s continued to work.

‘He’s an amazingly courageous and tough individual who was mentally strong throughout the whole time.’

‘I’m just grateful for the time we have had together,’ he said.
