Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources announced at Netflix

If two (soon to be three) seasons of Big Mouth on Netflix have proved nothing else, it’s that being a Hormone Monster is hard work. Now viewers will get a deeper look at the noble child shepherding profession.

Netflix has ordered Human Resources, a spinoff of Big Mouth that will take place in the corporate world of the various monsters (mostly of the Hormone variety) that populate the world of the original series. The announcement was made from the Big Mouth season 3 panel at New York Comic Con.

Netflix also provided a short, helpful look at the series, which seems to feature the same animation style as Big Mouth.

“We manage people” indeed.

Big Mouth creators Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett are developing the series alongside Kelly Galuska. Human Resources will be a part of an overall deal that the Big Mouth team signed with Netflix to develop a host of animated features and series. Human Resources is the first project announced under this deal aside from the further three seasons that Big Mouth was recently renewed for.

In an era in which many of Netflix’s properties receive only three or four seasons, Big Mouth has flourished. The show covers the hilarious and disgusting reality of the formative puberty years. Characters like Nick (Kroll), Andrew (John Mulaney), Jessi (Jessi Klein), and Jay (Jason Mantzoukas) struggle to get a hold of their rampaging emotions while hings are made more difficult by the presence of Hormone Monsters, the physical manifestations of the inner torment.

The world of Hormone Monsters is shockingly organised as seen in the Big Mouth season 2 finale. There is plenty of bureaucracy to work through in making sure that every child has his or her own hormone monster. Other unusual creatures populate the Hormone Monster universe like the Shame Wizard and Depression Kitty, but it remains to be seen if they have a role at “Human Resources.”
