Only Beyoncé could throw the Internet into a frenzy with a single cryptic tweet. On Sunday, Netflix posted a title card on Twitter with the phrase “Homecoming” written in Greek-style lettering against a mustard yellow background – and the Beyhive was quick to point out that the colour and font recalled a particular sweatshirt Beyoncé wore at Coachella last year. Famously, Beyoncé became the first woman of colour to headline Coachella in 2018 – using her platform to celebrate Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across America and donating $100,000 to Xavier, Wilberforce, Tuskegee and Bethune-Cookman Universities. Not only did she incorporate HBCU traditions into her performance – from stepping to trumpet confetti to a full-blown marching band – she also paid homage to African-American sororities and fraternities through her wardrobe (including that now-legendary sweatshirt). Creating her own fictional “Be(y)ta Delta Kappa” organisation, Queen Bey donned a sorority-inspired hoodie designed by Olivier Rousteing for her performance of “Drunk in Love”.
True to sphinx-like form, Beyoncé herself has yet to comment on speculation about the documentary, which Netflix describes as tracing the “emotional road from creative concept to cultural movement” interspersed with candid footage and interviews. However, it’s seeming more and more likely that the mother of three will drop another solo LP this year – her first since 2016’s Lemonade. (There have even been rumours that the whole album – likely to be highly visual in nature – will drop on Netflix in its entirety.) Her most recent record, Everything Is Love, was a joint release with husband Jay-Z under the name The Carters. Some good Bey-related news that has 100 percent been confirmed?
