Beyonce congratulated Jay Z with a kiss last night as he won the top honour at the NAACP Image Awards.

Jay Z, 49, won the President’s Award at the star-studded Los Angeles awards ceremony, which earned him a sweet kiss from his wife before hitting the stage to accept the accolade.

The 99 Problems rapper then dedicated his award to Beyonce, whom he married in 2008, describing the singer as the ‘beautiful woman in my life’ and praising her outfit choice, jokingly adding: ‘Just because of the white suit.’

Jay Z also dedicated his prestigious award to mother, Gloria Carter, and his 93-year-old grandmother, Hattie White, telling the audience: ‘[She is] so full of life. Hattie White, amongst other accomplishments and being super great and very tough, raised seven kids in one little walk up.

‘I grew believing I could do anything. That I could accomplish anything because of those strong women in my house. I would like to dedicate this award to those beautiful women.’

It was also a huge night for Beyonce, who scooped the coveted entertainer of the year, following an incredibly successful 2018 which included her first headline performance at Coachella and the release of her collaborative album with Jay Z, Everything Is Love.

After nervously taking to the stage, the 37-year-old singer said: ‘Thank you so much, I’m so honoured.’

Giving mention to the other nominated talent, Bey continued: ‘So, okay, Regina King, I love you so much. You taught us patience, persistence and how to be masterful in your craft.

‘Chadwick Boseman is teaching children to dream and to see themselves as kings.

‘LeBron James has taught us the strength of all forms in leading by example and providing education for our kids. Ryan Coogler tells our stories in a way that celebrates our history and proves that we do have power at the box office.’

She added: ‘I am honored to be included among all of you, and to be part of a vital, thriving, beautiful community. Thank you so much, NAACP. God bless you. I hope y’all had a great night. Thank you.’

It’s been a busy week for Bey and Jay, who also won the Vanguard gong at the GLAAD Media Awards just days before.
