If you want to smarten up your home with an Amazon Alexa gadget for the first time, or expand your existing family of connected devices, the Prime Day sales are the perfect time to do so.

From smart speakers to ebooks, there are clever buys for all budgets.

Here’s our pick of the best Amazon Prime Day deals to shop now, but they won’t be around for long as the sale ends midnight on 22 June.

Prime members have access to mega deals and discounts, but if you’re not a member you can sign up for a 30-day free trial in the meantime, so you won’t miss out on these offers.

Amazon Echo Dot smart speaker

The Echo Dot has evolved into a fine little desktop speaker and this third gen edition has a surprisingly potent mono driver that works fine with music, spoken books, and everyday interaction.

Buy it: Echo Dot (3rd Gen) | £19.99 (was £39.99) – 50% off

Park one on your bedside cabinet or home office desk, or you can use it as an upgrade to an existing (non-smart) Hi-Fi system. It is simple to set up, just run a 3.5mm lead from the Dot to an input of your audio system. Currently stellar value, with 50 per cent off.

Amazon Fire Stick

One of the most versatile media streamers available, this 4K Fire TV stick plugs into a spare HDMI input on your TV (or if you have a home cinema system, an HDMI input on your AV Receiver), and opens up a wealth of streaming apps.

Buy it: Fire TV Stick 4K Ultra HD | £26.99 (was £49.99) – 46% off

All our favourite mainstream catch-up channels are available (BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5) as well as favourites like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Youtube. Even if you already have a smart TV, it might be worth grabbing one in the sale, as it has so many other apps available onboard. Picture and sound are top notch, with 4K HDR Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos cinema sound where available. Currently a streaming steal at £26.99.

Amazon Kindle

Upgrade your reading with the latest Kindle Paperweight e-reader. It’s waterproof (so you can read in the bath or on the beach without worry), it pairs with Bluetooth speakers for use with Audible spoken word content, and (most importantly) has a built-in backlight, making it easy to use in bed.

Buy it: Kindle Paperwhite | £79.99 (was £119.99) – 33% off

We like the plum edition, but three other colour choices are available.

Amazon Fire tablet

If you’re seeking a new tablet, the more than 50 per cent saving on theFire HD 8 is a serious temptation. Amazon Fire HD tablets are locked to their own apps store (so no Google Play store), but there’s a wide selection of entertainment on tap.

Buy it: Fire HD 8 | £39.99 (was £89.99) – 56% off

You can stream Netflix or Prime Video, YouTube and BBC iPlayer amongst others, and there’s a good games library too. Those with lots of connected smart devices (lights, security, thermostat), can also use it as a low cost control panel.

Buy it: Fire HD 10 | £89.99 (was £159.99) – 44% off

The larger stablemate, the Fire HD 10, has the same functionality, but offers a more expansive screen, with a 44 per cent saving – it’s a no brainer really.

Echo Show

The Echo Show is basically an Amazon Echo speaker with an 8-inch screen. Think of it as a bedside smart clock, or kitchen companion, where you can use it to listen to playlists, monitor your Ring doorbell and video calls to other devices.

Buy it: Echo Show 8 | £59.99 (was £99.99) – 40% off

If family members have their own Amazon speakers, use the ‘Announce’ function to broadcast when dinner is ready….

Echo Auto

Ever wish you had Amazon Alexa voice control, and easy streaming, in your car? Well, now you can. The Echo Auto provides a bridge between the Alexa app on your smartphone and your car’s speakers.

Buy it: Echo Auto | £24.99 (was £49.99) – 50% off

It connects to your in-car entertainment system via an auxiliary input jack, or Bluetooth. It’s supplied with a simple air vent mount and runs off a USB port or a standard cigarette lighter socket.
