Best independent cycling shops in London

Boris Johnson last week suggested post-pandemic life “should be a new golden age for cycling”.

His comment followed news at the weekend that transport secretary Grant Shapps had pledged some £2 billion to double the number of cyclists and walkers by 2025.

For many of us, while any efforts to make roads safer for cyclists are welcome, there remains a long way to go in cities like London before we feel comfortable navigating the roads by bike, particularly during commuting hours. Encouraging more people to get cycling will nonetheless be an important part of keeping numbers to a minimum on public transport, where’s it’s harder to social distance, as well as supporting our shared interest in looking after our planet better.

As we are due to be allowed “unlimited exercise” in England as of Wednesday, it also means keen cyclists will be able to enjoy longer, multiple even, rides a day.

If you’re looking to get back on the road, are in need of a service or are considering taking the plunge and investing in a bike, we’ve rounded up some of London’s friendliest independent bike shops, where you’ll get sound advice for purchases and repairs.
