His latest film Babyteeth is set to premiere at the 76th Venice Film Festival. 

And making sure he is in attendance to mark the moment, Ben Mendelsohn was seen touching down in Venice, Italy on Sunday. 

The esteemed Australian actor, 50, cut a sharp figure in an all-black outfit while keeping a low profile ahead of the big event.

Ben was seen sporting a plain black T-shirt paired with tailored trousers, black-and-yellow sneakers and a pair of designer shades. 

The movie star was seen juggling with two bags as he flashed a smile while making his way into the city. 

Ben is expected to appear at Venice Film Festival where movie Babyteeth will have its world premiere on 4 September.

The Australian drama, adapted from the play of the same name by Rita Kalnejais, is directed by Shannon Murphy and is one of the film’s competing for the festival’s highest prize – the Golden Lion. 

It tells the story of a couple who discover their seriously ill teenage daughter has fallen in love with a drug dealer. 

Ben plays the role of Henry in the film and returned to Australia for the first time in nine years to work on the movie, which he has previously described as ‘delightfully bent’ and ‘beautifully Australian’.

Ben stars alongside Essie Davis, Eliza Scanlen and Toby Wallace in the film.  

The Emmy Award winner is best known for his his roles in blockbuster films, including The Dark Knight Rises and Star Wars: Rogue One.  

Ben, who hails from Melbourne, previously reflected on his success in the movie world in an interview with Herald Sun and said: ‘It’s been extraordinary. But that’s what has been very sweet about it – you don’t expect that in this business.

‘I still drive around and look back on a lot of years where things were leaner [and] I am still happily spun out by it.’
