Ben Affleck has sparked fears of a sobriety setback as he was seen stumbling around after a Halloween party this weekend.

The Batman v Superman actor enjoyed a night at the Unicef Masquerade ball at La Peer Hotel in West Hollywood on Saturday night, where the likes of Avril Lavigne and Noah Centineo also partied.

At the end of the evening, Ben was caught on video leaving with a female companion. The actor hugged the woman as she chatted on her phone, presumably arranging their transport home.

But when she walked off to flag down their car, Ben stumbled around before falling backwards but luckily managed to catch himself on the vehicle parked behind. After somewhat regaining his composure, Ben walked cautiously towards his waiting car before climbing in.

A source told Metro.co.uk that Ben is continuing to work on his sobriety everyday, following a rehab stint in August 2018 when he received treatment for alcoholism.

The insider explained: ‘He continues to contend with this disease and is doing so very publicly.

‘While he works very hard at this, everyday is a new battle. Sobriety is not something that just happens and everyday is a new battle.’

TMZ also reported that Ben, 47, has ‘acknowledged he’s going to slip up from time to time’ and knew the disease was not truly behind him for good.

In August, Ben was said to have celebrated one year of sobriety after his ex-wife Jennifer Garner pushed him to seek help for his addiction issues.

Sharing an insight into Ben’s recovery, an insider told Us Weekly: ‘Ben is in a great place in his recovery and life. He continues to want to be the best father and friend he can be.

‘Ben has found balance between his work and home life. He remains committed to a number of treatment and wellness methods that focus on his health.’

The Justice League actor most recently completed a 40-day stay at a treatment facility in October and made the unprecedented move of addressing his sobriety in an Instagram post.

He wrote: ‘This week I completed a forty day stay at a treatment centre for alcohol addiction and remain in outpatient care. The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say.

‘It’s given me the strength and support to speak about my illness with others.

‘Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment. I am fighting for myself and my family. So many people have reached out on social media and spoken about their own journeys with addiction. To those people, I want to say thank you.’

The actor added: ‘With acceptance and humility, I continue to avail myself with the help of so many people and I am grateful to all those who are there for me. I hope down the road I can offer an example to others who are struggling.’

Over the past year, Ben has taken a step back from the spotlight to focus on spending quality time with the three children he shares with Jennifer – Violet, 13, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, seven.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Ben’s reps for comment.
