Behind-the-scenes secrets from Stranger Things season 4

5. The hair and makeup team had their hands full with Vecna.

A reason why the hair and makeup team didn’t spend too much time with Will on a new look is because it took seven and a half hours for actor Jamie Campbell Bower to transform into Vecna.

While Eleven previously battled demon-like CGI figures from the Demogogans to the Mind Flayer, in season four, she faces a real enemy, played by Jamie, who also transforms into Vecna with a lot of prosthetics and makeup.

And for Jamie, that consisted of long days in the makeup chair before he filmed for twelve hours and ended his day back in the chair for an hour of dismantling his look. That’s dedication!

6. Dacre Montgomery’s cameo is not what it seems.

Dacre Montgomery‘s return as Billy was thrilling for us but terrifying for his sister Max (played by Sadie Sink).

Billy is seen in Max’s waking nightmares as a Vecna-created apparition – meaning that it appears as though they filmed those scenes together.

However, due to Hollywood shutdowns and strict lockdown restrictions, he was forced to film remotely from his native Australia, while Sadie filmed in the US.

Later, in post-production, it was up to director Shawn Levy to merge the scenes- something he described as a “Rubik’s Cube puzzle” to Entertainment Weekly. The effort paid off, Shawn!

7. A musical icon is reborn – 35 years later.

Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” saved Max from Vecna and, as a result, has soared to No. 1 on iTunes and Spotify.

37 years following its release, when it only made it to No. 30 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in the eighties, the tune has finally claimed its power by topping charts and going viral.
