Bebe Rexha visits Albania after major earthquake

Bebe Rexha has travelled to Albania to visit families affected by the most powerful earthquake to hit the country in decades.

The 6.4 magnitude tremor struck last week and killed 51 people.

Around 2,000 people were injured, with more than 1,400 buildings damaged in the capital of Tirana, according to Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Around 900 buildings in Durres were also seriously damaged.

Shortly after the earthquake, Rexha, who was born in the United States to Albanian parents, asked for donations and support from her fans.

She told her Instagram followers that she would “personally jump off [her] tour in her two days off, fly to Albania and personally give people food and water and helping to rebuild their houses.”

The singer, 30, arrived in Bubq village on Monday and shared footage of the devastation on her Instagram story, telling followers how many homes are now “unlivable” and must be “torn down and rebuilt from the ground up.”

She said that the first house that she will be involved in rebuilding belonged to the Musa family, and showed how the entrance to the house was now rubble. She also shared video of a huge crack in their bedroom wall.

She then posted similar footage of a home belonging to the Bushi family in Biza, who she also pledged to help.

“Keep spreading the word and have your friends donate,” she urged fans in a final Instagram story.

According to Albanian press, President Ilir Meta thanked Rexha for her “solidarity” and her “pride” in her Albanian heritage.

Fellow singers Rita Ora, who has Albanian parents, and Dua Lipa, who is of Albanian-Kosovar heritage, also pledged their support for the earthquake victims shortly after the disaster.

Lipa said that she would make a personal donation and revealed her involvement in a fashion project to raise funds for the victims.

Ora implored her fans to “find a family or charity or way to help rebuild the homes of the victims of the disaster” and said that she would be helping the Sala family.
