BBC show slammed after guest calls Rishi Sunak 'Prince Charles in brownface'

A BBC comedy show has been slammed after a guest described Rishi Sunak as ‘Prince Charles in brownface’.

Leila Navabi, 21, was criticised for her comments on The Leak, a radio show on Radio Wales, which also included her saying that the Chancellor did “not represent most brown people”.

Navabi also joked about the new 50p coin that was commissioned by Sunak that reads “DIVERSITY BUILT BRITAIN”, which is being released in an effort to recognise the contribution of ethnic minority communities.

She said: “Nobody likes the coin, the right say they recon it is virtue signalling and the left seem to agree.”

Navabi continued: “Rishi Sunak represents a lot of things for us as a society, not least what Prince Charles would look like in brownface.’

She later said: “What I will say is that Rishi Sunak does not represent most brown people, in fact he doesn’t represent most people point blank, unless most people have a billion pounds.”

“The BBC should celebrate diversity, not sow division. I hope they think more carefully in future.”

A BBC spokesman told the publication: “In this instance, we believe that the comedian, who was a guest on the programme, was suggesting that Prince Charles and the Chancellor have a passing resemblance.”
