BBC Radio 1 presenter Scott Mills has announced his engagement to partner Sam Vaughan.

The pair, who have been together for four years, got engaged over the weekend and are now planning the rest of their lives together.

The popular host celebrated the news this evening on Instagram, complete with a gorgeous snap of the pair embracing as photographs spanning their time together hung attached to silver helium balloons.

A bright blue box which holds the engagement ring is also visible in the sweet picture of the moment after the question was popped.

Sharing the happy news, Scott wrote: ‘After 4 years together I’m delighted to say we got engaged at the weekend.

‘As [Sam] knows, I always said I didn’t think I would ever get married. But then I met you Sam.

‘You make me laugh every single day, you support me in so many ways and I adore everything about you.

He continued: ‘As soon as I met you I knew this could be something special and it is (after a slow start)’!

‘We’ve had some amazing times, and I’m bursting with happiness to know we will have so many more. I love you with all my heart.’ (sic)

Friends of the happy couple flocked to the comments on Twitter and Instagram to offer their congratulations – and in musician Joel Corry’s case, offer to DJ at the wedding, to which Scott instantly replied ‘BOOKED’!

Chart-topper Becky Hill said it was the ‘most wholesome news’ while Stacey Dooley and Lloyd Griffith offered a row of heart emojis.

Former rugby star Nigel Owens wrote on Twitter: ‘Huge congratulations to you both’, and the head of BBC Radio 1, Aled Haydn Jones, said ‘YAY!! Congratulations guys!’

Fellow BBC Radio 1 presenter Chris Stark said he ‘cannot wait for us to celebrate this [tomorrow]’ and joked ‘I’m so happy that these two loveliest humans are gonna be twiddling each others rings.

‘I love you Sam and Scott. I couldn’t be happier for you both … PS) please let me organise the stag. I have some great ideas.’
