BBC news host Reeta Chakrabarti has revealed she was rushed to A&E late on Friday night
The presenter revealed her ordeal on Twitter, saying she was in pain but her health problem was “not serious”.
She also thanked a “complete stranger” called Jamie Marshall who she said bought her cold drinks after noticing she was in pain.
The news reader wrote: “I was in A and E last night – it wasn’t serious thankfully but I was in pain – a lovely person in the waiting room saw I was suffering and went to buy me some cold drinks.
“Just like that, a complete stranger.”
She also told how she hoped the stranger who came to her rescue was on Twitter and spotted her message.
She said: “Hope you are on Twitter, thank you.
She added: “We spend a lot of time reporting bad news, so I wanted to share a simple act of human kindness – they do happen!”
Her fans rushed to send their well wishes to the news reader and praise the good Samaritan.
One wrote: “How very kind in amongst all the bad news, it’s easy to forget how small acts of kindness can make a difference. Hope you’re feeling better.”
A second said: “That’s lovely to read & restores your faith in people. I hope you’re ok.”
A third penned: “Sorry to hear you were feeling unwell @reetabbc and so glad you are ok.
“What a lovely person to help you like that … we are surrounded by lovely caring people who step out of nowhere to help and care. Get better quick Reeta.”
A fourth person added: “Hope you’re feeling better. Small kindnesses can make such a big difference, particularly when we are at our lowest ebb. I hope Jamie sees your lovely message.”
In April Reeta has hit out at presenter Jeremy Paxman after he said that “any fool” could read the news.
Former Newsnight presenter Paxman said “newsreading is an occupation for an articulated suit”.
But Chakrabarti disagreed with this assessment and said it is a skilled job.
She said: “It’s his opinion, but I wonder why he says it when he spent quite a few years himself reading an Autocue,.
“And if I’m presenting the One O’Clock News, I’ve written a lot of what I’m reading out. Those aren’t someone else’s words.”
