Bayern Munich 'plan world record bid' for Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Bayern Munich are looking to bring back native German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to the Bundesliga after talks with their current number one, Manuel Neuer, hit a snag and discussions over a new deal have been put on hold.

The 27-year-old Barca keeper has stalled contract talks with his side, just as the German outfit’s talks with Neuer have been thrown into doubt after he rejected an extension on his current deal, with just one year left remaining, according to Diario Sport.

Bayern have already signed young German keeper Alexander Nübel from Schalke 04 on a free transfer and believe the 23-year-old is one of the hottest goalkeeping prospects around – but they are reportedly looking for someone to hit the ground running.

Ter Stegen, many believe, has pipped Neuer to the number one goalkeeping spot in Germany, while an £80million offer has been mooted, given that’s what Barca value the keeper as.

Indeed, if they deal went through, he would be the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

Currently, Kepa Arrizabalaga holds that record, after he moved from Athletic Bilbao to Stamford Bridge two years ago for a reported £72milllion.

But Sport state that Bayern are asking ter Stegen not to extend his current deal at the Nou Camp, meaning they would get their man for free in 2022.
But prising him away from Spain will prove tricky.

The Catalans will be looking for a significant fee for the former Borussia Monchengladbach player, who signed for the La Liga giants in 2014 for £9.7million.

And while they maintain that the keeper will sign on the dotted line, they are looking to raise enough funds to cast another bid for wantaway Paris Saint Germain attacker Neymar.

The Brazilian forward has been plagued by injury this season and is looking for a way out of Ligue 1 as soon as possible.
