Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has heaped praise on the ‘extraordinary job’ of Frank Lampard in his debut season as Chelsea manager.

The Blues legend took over in a difficult period for the club, facing the prospect of a two-window transfer ban and losing their best player, Eden Hazard, to Real Madrid.

Lampard managed to guide his side to a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League football for next season.

Chelsea now face the tough test of attempting to turn around a 3-0 deficit in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash against Bayern at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

The German champions put the Blues to the sword at Stamford Bridge back in February with a brace from Serge Gnabry and one goal from the prolific Robert Lewandowski.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash, Flick highlighted the excellent work of his opposite number.

‘I can say Lampard has been doing an extraordinary job with Chelsea,’ the German coach said.

‘They’ve managed to qualify for next season’s Champions League through the Premier League and they’ve been pretty successful after the restart.

‘I like the way they play and how they’ve performed.

‘It was a difficult situation when he started. But at the end of the season he really performed an extraordinary season with his team.’
