Battlefield 6 and Dragon Age 4 release date is not until after April 2022

Publishers only usually get talkative about their future plans when things are going well and thanks to FIFA Ultimate Team and its equivalent in Madden NFL things are going very well for EA at the moment.

That’s led to them revealing a number of details about their upcoming slate, including plans for multiple remasters of fan favourite games, but no Dragon Age 4 until after their 2022 financial year.

That runs from April 2021 to the end of March 2022, so it’s going to be a hell of a wait. Although that makes more sense when you consider that it’s intended as a PlayStation 5 and next gen Xbox game, so half of it is just avoiding having to be make the game for current gen consoles as well.

Battlefield 6 will be out before that, during the next financial year (so likely Christmas 2021) but it’s unsurprising they would want to take their time with that as well, given the lukewarm reception for Battlefield V.

And while Dragon Age: Inquisition was more warmly received by fans the reputation of developer BioWare has taken a severe knock since the more recent Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem.

A new Battlefield has never been mentioned in public before, so there’s no clue as to what its setting might be – although most fans are hoping that it’ll be a return to the modern era and possibly Bad Company 3.

Technically, Dragon Age 4 was confirmed in early 2018 and got a teaser trailer at last year’s The Game Awards, but there’s been virtually no information about it or its story.

In the interim, EA has said that Apex Legends will count as its annual shooter for now, even though it’s just one continually updated game in the manner of Fortnite.

There will be a mobile version next year and a big push into China, although when asked EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen did say that they hadn’t forgotten about Titanfall.

A new Titanfall wasn’t mentioned in any of their plans though, and neither was a new Battlefront game – or indeed any new Star Wars game beyond next month’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
