An online rumour has suggested that Warner Brothers are planning to use an upcoming Batman game to launch a DC Games Universe.
WB Games Montreal, the Canadian studio who worked on 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins, hinted last month that a new Batman game was on its way with a cryptic picture clue.
Comic book website GWW has claimed that the game will be a “soft reboot” of the franchise, which started with Batman: Arkham Asylum and spawned several successful sequels.
The game will supposedly begin a new, cohesive DC Games Universe, in the vein of the DC Cinematic Universe, which brought together characters like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman across several inter-linked films.
A Superman game is also said to be in the works, and Arkham creators Rocksteady are supposedly working on a related multiplayer game, although there is no way of verifying whether these rumours are true.
They are facing some undoubtedly stiff competition. Marvel and Sony had a huge hit in 2018 with the acclaimed Spider-man game on PS4, and their blockbuster Avengers game is set to hit shelves later this year.
