Bruno Fernandes summary

Bruno Fernandes is close to joining Manchester United after a significant breakthrough was made in talks with Sporting Lisbon

The club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has struck a deal with Sporting’s director Hugo Viana.

Final figures and personal terms remain, but a fee of £46.6million and a further £8.5million in add-ons is believed to have been settled on.

Those add-ons are understood to be based on appearances and Champions League qualification, while it would take a hugely successful stint at Old Trafford to trigger a further £12.7m.

A four-and-a-half year deal is on the table for Fernandes. The move is subject to a medical but United are confident of getting the deal over the line.

Sky Sports suggest that Barcelona have actually offered more than their Premier League rivals but a significant amount would not be paid until the summer.

Journalist James Ducker adds that a medical has been pencilled in for Thursday but could be brought forward.

Bruno Fernandes breakthrough

Manchester United are close to agreeing a fee for Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes.

United sources have indicated a deal is close to being finalised with the Portuguese club for the 25-year-old.

It is understood United have agreed to pay £46.6million up front for Fernandes, with an additional £8.5m in add-ons.

United are confident of agreeing the transfer, subject to medical and personal terms.

Olivier Giroud latest

Olivier Giroud looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The French international look destined to leave Chelsea having fallen down the pecking order under Frank Lampard.

Inter Milan, Aston Villa, Newcastle and even Barcelona have been linked with the 33-year-old but nothing has materialised.

Now, Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim favourites Inter are focused on signing Napoli’s Fernando Llorente instead.

Rodrigo to Barcelona

Barcelona are set to announce the signing of Valencia forward Rodrigo.

That’s according to Spanish newspaper Marca, who claim a deal is ‘all but done’ for the 28-year-old striker.

Valencia president Anil Murthy and agent Jorge Mendes are both in Barcelona today thrashing out the final details of the transfer.

The Spanish champions will initially sign Rodrigo on loan for the remainder of the season with an obligation to buy in June.

Marca claim the sticking point in the deal is Valencia’s £50.7million valuation that Barcelona would like reduced by £8.5m.

It’s thought Quique Setien’s side will offer youngsters Moussa Wague and Monchu to tempt their La Liga rivals into accepting a reduced fee.

Bruno Fernandes hijack

Barcelona have made a late approach for Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United have been desperately trying to negotiate a deal for the Portuguese playmaker but little progress has been made with just four days until deadline day.

Now, Sky Sports claim Barcelona have opened talks with the 25-year-old.

The Spanish champions are proposing a five-year deal and loaning him to Valencia until the end of the 2020/2021 campaign.

It’s said Barcelona hope the deal will tempt Valencia into selling Rodrigo, others suggest it’s merely a tactic to force Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to meet Sporting’s valuation.

Talks confirmed

Valencia coach Albert Celades has confirmed his team are negotiating with Barcelona over the sale of striker Rodrigo Moreno.

Spanish champions Barcelona are looking to replace injured striker Luis Suarez, who will miss around four months after knee surgery.

“Rodrigo is a player who can make the difference, that’s why Barcelona want him,” Celades told a news conference. “We all know there are negotiations in progress and we’re not going to hide it.”

“Rodrigo has gone to Barcelona because he has a medical with Doctor (Ramon) Cugat, which was expected to take place like this,” added Celades, whose side face Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey last 16 on Wednesday.

Maxi Gomez to Manchester United

Manchester United are interested in signing Valencia forward Maxi Gomez.

That’s according to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, who claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the 23-year-old at Old Trafford next season.

The report claims Manchester United scouts have watched Gomez on several occasions this season and were in attendance during Valencia’s 2-0 victory over Barcelona last week.

West Ham were close to signing the Uruguayan international from Celta Vigo last summer, but Valencia secured his services on a five-year deal that includes a £118m release clause.
