Barcelona strike Neymar agreement in big Real Madrid transfer blow

Barcelona and their former star Neymar have reportedly agreed that the Brazilian will not join Real Madrid after they attempted to negotiate with Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

Neymar attempted to force his way out of the Ligue 1 club after an unhappy two years at the Parc des Princes.

Representatives from Barcelona and Real apparently flew to the French capital to thrash out terms.

However, PSG’s valuation is still sky high after they broke the world record to sign Neymar for £198million in 2017.

The 28-year-old has not been able to settle with life in Paris and is continuously linked with a return to La Liga.

And Spanish outlet Ok Diario claim a pact is in place which would stop the former Santos ace from moving to the Bernabeu.

Barcelona are expected to attempt to resign Neymar at the end of the season, although they will have to offload at least one of their stars to do so.

The state of the summer transfer window is still unclear as the coronavirus pandemic has postponed all football for the forseeable future.

But the Catalan giants must cut their costs to remain within the Financial Fair Play guidelines if they want Neymar back.

Some of Barcelona’s more senior players offered to defer part of their wages to accommodate Neymar’s return last year.

“Obviously he would have increased our chances of getting the results that we all want.

“The club would have taken a leap forward, in terms of sponsors, our image, our growth, but in the end it didn’t happen.”

If Barcelona do make a move for Neymar then Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele or Philippe Coutinho could be the high-profile departure.
