Barcelona need Man City help to block Liverpool Timo Werner transfer

Barcelona have reportedly drawn up a master plan which includes Manchester City and could end up preventing Liverpool from signing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

The 24-year-old German international has flirted with the idea of moving to Anfield this summer.

Talks have apparently been held and the switch was on the verge of being given the green light before the coronavirus pandemic forced the Reds into a rethink.

While Jurgen Klopp assess if Liverpool have enough financial power to seal the deal, that allows other sides to make a move.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claim Inter Milan want to sign Werner, who has a £52million release clause, if they sell Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona.

However, Martinez would be a very expensive forward to purchase straight up so they need to add some players to lower the cash outlay.

Inter have apparently asked for a right-back – namely City star Joao Cancelo.

Corriere dello Sport report that Barca will try to swap Nelson Semedo for Cancelo, and then hand him over to Inter.

The Catalan will also have to stump up enough money – thought to be £72m – for Inter to make a move for Werner.

It is added that if Werner refuses to move to Serie A then Inter will instead turn to Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

“Even when he plays as a double striker he likes to drift a little bit towards the left side and then be ready to run without the ball, slashing in behind the back line of the opponent or get balls on the run and go 1v1 or come in on his right foot.

“He can do this from the right, from the left. He’s so smart at finding space and timing his runs behind. And his pace is incredible, as well as his finishing ability at speed.

“From an attacking perspective, he has very few weaknesses, if any.”
