Barbara Windsor delights viewers in rare TV appearance on Good Morning Britain 'A legend'


Dame Barbara Windsor, 82 was joined by her husband Scott Mitchell on Good Morning Britain in a pre-recorded video to give a Christmas message to viewers. This is the first time the actress has made an appearance on television since she was diagnosed with the degenerative condition five years ago. Fans of the EastEnders star were delighted to see the soap stalwart looking so festive on the ITV news show.

Sat next to her husband, with a bust from the Queen Vic in the background, the former BBC soap landlady gave her message to viewers.

“Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all the viewers and everyone at Good Morning from us and everyone at Alzheimer’s Society,” Barbara said.

Scott added: “Merry Christmas,” as the short clip drew to a close.

Viewers quickly shared their delight on Twitter at seeing the EastEnders star, as one wrote: “Wonderful to see Barbara Windsor shes looking lovely [sic].”

“I do understand not everyone is comfortable.

“But it’s so important which is why your 1 Million Minutes campaign is absolutely fantastic,” he told the hosts Ben Shephard, 45, and Charlotte Hawkins, 44.

“The difference that it makes to people when you pay a visit, and this is not only on the volunteering side, but also family and friends.

“If you know that there is one person doing most of the caring for someone, the difference it makes to have a visit, just for that hour, not only for the person living with the illness, but also for the career as well,” he explained.

“It just changes the whole days and sometimes, days can feel very much the same,” Scott added.

Since the EastEnders actress was diagnosed with the condition back in 2014. her husband has spoke many times on television, giving updates on her health.

Barbara haas continued to make public appearance however, if rare, with the most recent being her attendance at a performance of Les Miserables back in October.

Both living with the effects of dementia, the couple are both ambassadors for the Alzheimer’s Society, with Scott having run the London Marathon earlier this year in his wife’s honour.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
