Barack Obama reveals his 35 favourite songs of 2019

Barack Obama has revealed his 35 favourite songs of 2019, highlighting a variety of artists from Lizzo to Lil Nas X and Bruce Springsteen.

It’s a tradition for Mr Obama to share lists of his cultural favourites as the year draws to a close – a ritual he’s once again observing as 2020 approaches.

The former president shared the list of his favourite tunes on Monday, after unveiling his favourite books as well as favourite movies and TV shows.

“From hip-hop to country to The Boss, here are my songs of the year,” he wrote.

“If you’re looking for something to keep you company on a long drive or help you turn up a workout, I hope there’s a track or two in here that does the trick.”

Among the titles highlighted by the former POTUS is Lizzo’s “Juice” as well as “Old Town Road”, a collaboration between Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Springsteen’s “Hello Sunshine”, from the album Western Stars, also made the list. The musician received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Obama in 2016.

Obama also gave shout-outs to Mavis Staples, Maggie Rogers, The National, Solange, The Black Keys, Alicia Keys, DaBaby, Frank Ocean and Beyoncé, among others.
