Banged Up: Teens Behind Bars viewers mock prison guard over Scouse accent fail

BANGED Up: Teens Behind Bars aims to show the brutal reality of life on the wrong side of the law in the US.

The Channel 4 show sees a group of British teenagers taken to a high-security US prison in Florida to try and scare them into changing their ways.

However, despite many viewers admitting the show was eye-opening and terrifying, others mocked the US security guards for failing to understand some of the British accents.

One participant was 17-year-old Layla from Liverpool.

As she tried to talk to security guard, it became clear her strong Scouse accent was difficult to understand.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: “That officer has never heard a Scouse accent before has he?”

“That prison officer was looking at that Scouse girl like she was speaking gibberish,” a second laughed.

Meanwhile, a third continued: “Watching some TV show where teenagers are being sent to prison in Florida.

“Love the clueless expression from the tough guard trying to understand a Scouse girl.”

“Scouse translator needed,” a fourth added

Speaking frankly about her upbringing, Layla said to camera: “Growing up there has always been crime around me constantly.

“When I think of jail I think about my family and how many of them have been in there.”
