In what seems like the perfect mix of licence and creator, Larian Studios looks like they’re gearing up to announce Baldur’s Gate III.

There’s been something of a renaissance for old school computer role-playing games in recent years, and yet still there’s still never been an official sequel to 2000 classic Baldur’s Gate. But it looks like that’s about to change.
The homepage for Belgium developer Larian Studios is currently just the Roman numerals for three, which initially you might assume to be a reference to a potential Original Sin III.
But datamining the site has found numerous references to Wizards of the Coast, the company that owns the rights to Dungeons & Dragons and ultimately Baldur’s Gate.
As soon as that cat was out of the bag various industry figures, including Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, claimed that they had insider information that it really is Baldur’s Gate III.
And then finally someone found the smoking gun, with a direct reference to Baldur’s Gate III found in the website’s HTML code.
So there you go. Given the proximity to E3 an annoucement next month seems all but guaranteed, although the question of who’ll be publishing and if it’ll also be on consoles remains to be seen.
The sequel could hardly be in better hands though as Divinity: Original Sin II is one of the best Western style role-players ever made and receipt of a rare 10/10 score in our review.
