Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain had trademarked her name and Elbows Out catchphrase to launch her own range of food and kitchen utensils
The star – who is a millionaire after being crowned GBBO champ in 2015 – filed documents with the Government’s Intellectual Property Office for the trademark to flog food and drink entertainment services, kitchen items, clothes, including chef’s uniforms, books and jewellery.
The documents – which have been approved – stay in place for 10 years before they need to be resubmitted.
She’s filed papers to register the trademarks in a total of 24 different product classes covering 100s of items.
Nadiya uses the “elbows out” mantra to explain her outlook on life.
Speaking on the Graham Norton Show on BBC One, she said: “Here’s a thing that I tell my kids. I say ‘elbows out’. There’s a rule in our house: whenever you feel like you don’t fit in or feel like there’s a place that isn’t there for you, stick your elbows out – not physically but metaphorically.
“Get those elbows out and make space. And that’s what I say to myself, I say: ‘Elbows out make space’.
“Because there are people out there like me who want to do what they love.
“Not necessarily famous or being on television, but they want to do something that they love but they don’t see space for them.
“So let’s get our elbows out and make space.”
Since she took the Great British Bake Off crown, she has penned 10 books and carved a lucrative career for herself through foodie TV shows.
She also rakes in dough from personal appearances and cookery demonstrations.
Nadiya, from Luton, Beds, has also appeared as a reporter on The One Show and writes newspaper and magazine columns.
She has also taken part in a travel show – The Chronicles of Nadiya – and filmed Nadiya’s British Food Adventure, Nadiya’s Family Favourites and Time to Eat.
