‘Bachelor in Paradise’ recap: It’s ‘polygamy summer camp,’ starring Blake

Though its title implies otherwise, “Bachelor in Paradise” is anything but – especially when the aftershocks of Blake’s antics at the Stagecoach Music Festival reverberate across the group’s Mexican hideaway.

When Night 2 of the season premiere begins, it’s all about Blake

Blake pulls Tayshia aside to tell her that just because he’s going on a date with Kristina doesn’t mean their date on Night 1 wasn’t good. Elsewhere, Caelynn tells Sydney that Blake referred to their night together as a “mistake.” To recap, in case you missed the first part of the premiere: Blake hooked up with Caelynn during Stagecoach the night after he slept with Kristina.

On their date, Kristina confronts Blake, telling him she feels disrespected. Blake tries to tell his version of the Caelynn story: It was late, they took things too far, they woke up and decided to be friends. Ah, to be a fly on the wall of this room!

Blake says that he values Kristina’s friendship and says the reason he told her about Caelynn is because he respects her.

‘Bachelor in Paradise’ premiere, night one: Caelynn spills about Blake; Demi says I ‘like who I like’

“I made my bed and I’m gonna sleep in it,” he says. “Did you change the sheets?” Kristina retorts, sounding scripted. Aside, Blake says he won’t apologize for being single and not in a relationship.

“You’re acting like I’m this really bad person,” Blake says. “I didn’t do anything wrong.” The definition of “wrong” is getting interesting.

Later, Caelynn tells Blake she too feels disrespected. He’s surprised. “We talked about this,” Blake says, to which Caelynn shoots back, “You talked about this.” She claims that he decided they were going to be friends. It’s a classic Shakespearean miscommunication that would be way more interesting if it involved people we cared about.

“I feel like a slimy, disgusting secret that you’re ashamed of,” Caelynn tells him, sobbing. He claims he didn’t know she felt this way and also doesn’t remember calling their night a “mistake.” “We had something, dude,” she adds, saying she didn’t expect to be ignored on the beach.

Demi offers her two cents on the matter: “I’m not mad at him for trying to date other people, but it’s the fact that he’s lying about things and hiding things and telling people ‘Oh, let’s keep this a secret’ and acting like he’s not doing anything wrong. That’s just kind of shady to me.”

Hannah G. calls the situation “polygamy summer camp,” and she’s not wrong.

Kristina tells Tayshia she took Blake on a date to clear things up, and lets her know that they were seeing each other but decided to stay friends (and occasionally more than that). She also clues Tayshia in about his night with Caelynn.

It’s worth noting that Blake breaks down in tears, too, about how “Paradise” is going. There’s a lot of crying on this show. It’s a good thing Nicole packed so many tissues.

Dylan and others pursue Hannah G.

Hannah G. and Dylan have been spending quality time together, though several men try to woo her, including Wills.

Hannah is open with Dylan – who really only has eyes for her at this point – about the fact she kissed Wills. It seems like she and Dylan are set for the rose ceremony … but then Blake steals her away. She admits to having connections with both men.

What’s going on with Clay?

Bibiana may be interested in Clay, but once he gets a date card he asks out Nicole.

Annaliese claims that his ex, Angela, said they were looking at houses together before the breakup and told her he was going to marry her, but needs to figure himself out. Ummm. She confronts Clay before he heads out on the date, but – not so shockingly – he pushes back.

Nicole and Clay go to a carnival, where Clay says he broke up with Angela three months ago and that he’s over her. They kiss.

Demi questions why Annaliese approached Clay before the date and doesn’t hesitate to drop this gem: “There might not be a worse judge of character whenever it comes to men than Annaliese.”

The cocktail party begins

Demi and Derek remain solid, though elsewhere new couples form as the battle for roses is underway. Caelynn goes after Cam and the pair kiss; she’s apparently surprised by him. OK.

John Paul Jones and Onyeka may have a spark after all; he calls her a breath of fresh air.

Who’s not a breath of fresh air for John Paul Jones? Jane, who offers him spicy tacos (remember that she loves hot sauce) that make him puke. It’s unclear what exactly causes it, but it doesn’t seem like it will inspire a love connection.

Annaliese and Chris B. enjoy each other’s company … though Kristina gets a chance to talk with the six-time franchise vet, too.

We’ll have to wait until next week for the rose ceremony, because, suspense.
