Axel Tuanzebe hopes Liverpool clash can have 'snowball effect' on Man Utd season

Axel Tuanzebe is hopeful Man Utd can kick-start their season with a positive result over Liverpool this weekend.

The Red Devils are looking to address their run of poor form at Old Trafford on Sunday, but face an uphill task against the league leaders.

Liverpool are yet to drop any points this season and are one win away from equalling the record for consecutive Premier League victories.

They have gone five years without a win on United turf however, and Tuanzebe is all too aware of the magnitude of the rivalry.

“Ah, it’s huge,” Tuanzebe told the club’s official website . “It’s huge to me, it’s huge to my family, it’s huge to my friends.

“You know, I’m already getting messages now saying, ‘Make sure you beat Liverpool’.”

The young defender has been handed an opportunity to earn his stripes under boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after impressing on loan at Aston Villa last season.

He has come up against Liverpool previously in academy clashes, recalling a victory in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final in 2011.

But United come into the game off the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Newcastle , and could even slip into the relegation zone this weekend.

Yet Tuanzebe feels it is a case of big task, big reward, and believes the clash can be the catalyst for a change in United’s fortune.

“It would mean a lot to us, it would mean a lot to the fans,” Tuanzebe added. “You know, just to boost confidence, have us on a snowball effect and get a win and momentum.

“I think that’s what we need right now to get us back on track and playing the football we know we can play.”

United will be without two key stars for the clash though, with David de Gea and Paul Pogba both sidelined with injury, although Anthony Martial is in contention to return.
