Avengers Endgame: Shock truth behind time travel scenes – ‘it’s almost ALL new footage’

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame.

The new Marvel movie has enthralled fans by neatly tying together 11 years’ worth of stories.

That conclusion involved many of the heroes venturing back through time to retrieve the Infinity Stones before Thanos could.

Along the way, the iconic Battle of New York from 2012’s The Avengers movie was revisited, along with scenes such as the opening of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

But rather than rely heavily on reused footage from the time, Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed that the Avengers’ “past selves” were almost all reshot from scratch.

“95% was reshot,” Joe told Cinema Blend.

Of Star-Lord’s comical walk, the brothers said “parts of it [were shot] again.”

“It’s probably 80/20 [percent] now I think of it,” Joe added.

AVENGERS ENDGAME: THANOS’ AGE IS VERY SURPRISING

Pushed on the Battle of New York – including that iconic shot of the six original Avengers in one group – Joe explained: “Those pieces were original but what we did was create a new shot where we connected them in an overhead.

“Where the camera pans from the Avengers circling up over to our guys arriving, and then obviously that’s all new footage.”

Anthony added: “We all have very emotional triggers when we see those shots so we wanted to have those moments, but we needed to bed them in.”

“When Loki asks for his drink, that’s completely re-shot,” Joe confirmed.

“We brought Hiddleston back, we had the actors in make-up so they looked like they did years ago.”

One part that did rely on re-used footage was the reappearance of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster – although the Oscar winner did record new voiceover dialogue for use in the background.

Avengers: Endgame is fast becoming an all-time great in terms of box office receipts.

It’s already the second highest-grossing release of all time, behind only Avatar.

Avengers: Endgame is out now.
