Avengers Endgame plot hole: Thanos did NOT destroy the Infinity Stones say Russos – WHAT?

Now that the main spoilers embargo has lifted, the filmmakers are free to start answering some of the biggest fan questions and complaints about Avengers 4. Unsurprisingly, most of the centre on the time travel paradoxes. However, one major apparent plot hole focuses on the cause of their entire need to time travel in the first place. When the surviving Avengers locate Thanos, they easily defeat him, most notably because he no longer has the Infinity Stones to use. The Mad Titan shocks them with the news he destroyed all six stones. But shouldn’t that be impossible according to major information in a later scene?

So how do the directors explain this Infinity Stones plot hole?

According to an audience member at a private fan event with the Russos, they said; “Thanos only reduced the stones to the atomic level. The stones are still present in the universe.”

So, basically, he smashed them to smithereens but did not actually destroy them out of existence. They continue to be an integral part of reality and the universe but are no longer in a single (and easily usable) form.

AVENGERS ENDGAME DIGITAL STREAMING RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED

This is pretty satisfying as an explanation and removes the stones from the future Marvel Phases, allowing new threats and solutions to come into play.

Unless, of course, someone goes back in time and uses one or all of the stones to…

Well, let’s hope that doesn’t happen. The directors and writers have already had enough trouble and frantic contortions trying to solve all the time travel problems the first time around.

AVENGERS ENDGAME IS OUT NOW.
