Avengers Endgame PLOT HOLE? How [SPOILER] could have LIVED and defeated [SPOILER]

WARNING SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS ENDGAME AHEAD. The final battle of Avengers Endgame saw the poignant sacrificial death of Iron Man in the face of Thanos trying to destroy and reboot the entire universe. Getting a hint from Doctor Strange that he only had one chance to complete the Endgame – the one possible future where the Avengers defeat Thanos – Iron Man attacked the Mad Titan wearing his Infinity Gauntlet which contained the Infinity Stones borrowed from the past. However, Thanos threw him off and immediately snapped his fingers.

But then Thanos suddenly noticed that all six Infinity Stones had disappeared and Tony Stark had managed to latch them onto his nanotech Iron Man suit.

After all, the right-handed Infinity Gauntlet Thanos was wearing is Stark tech.

Thanos had said, “I am inevitable”, but Tony replied, “And I am Iron Man”, echoing his final line from the first MCU movie, before snapping his fingers and turning Thanos and his minions to dust. Being only human and not strong enough to wield all six Infinity Stones and survive – unlike Thanos and Hulk – Tony then died, but did he need to?

WILL AVENGERS ENDGAME WIN THE BEST PICTURE OSCAR IN 2020?

In that moment, Iron Man had all six Infinity Stones and all their powers.

He could have used the Space Stone or the Time Stone to get out of there and away from Thanos – either somewhere else or to the past.

Tony then could have sort liaised with Hulk or another similarly powerful ally to wield the Infinity Gauntlet, snap their fingers thus decimating Thanos and his minions, but also survive.

Sure Hulk’s arm is already damaged from his first use, but he could have used his left by altering the Gauntlet.

AVENGERS ENDGAME BOX OFFICE RECORDS

Of course, the only thing standing in the way of this apparent plot hole is Doctor Strange’s assertion that there’s only one possible future where the Avengers win.

Earlier in the battle, Tony asked the Sorcerer Supreme if they were in that reality, to which Doctor Strange said, “If I tell you, it won’t happen.”

Of course, Doctor Strange knew Iron Man had to die. That’s why he saved his life on Titan in Infinity War and gave Thanos the Time Stone in exchange for his life. Tony needed to live to be a sacrifice five years later.

So maybe this means if Iron Man had tried to escape using the Stones and sought Hulk to take on another Snap, Thanos still would have got the upper hand and won somehow.

Avengers Endgame is out now.
