Avengers Endgame brought the house down last year with its exceptional storytelling, and unbelievable ending. Marvel, in association with Disney, managed to culminate a huge amount of films into one final storyline, leaving fans excited beyond belief. However, since then, Falcon star Anthony Mackie has spoken out about the Marvel franchise.
In an interview with Variety for the Actors on Actors segment, Mackie explained that a lot more work can – and should – be done to diversify the Marvel team.
As fans know, there are only a few black superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the moment.
And that number is even smaller behind the cameras, Mackie explained, as he said: “We’ve had one Black producer; his name was Nate Moore,” Mackie continued. “He produced ‘Black Panther.'”
He later went on to say: “But then when you do ‘Black Panther,’ you have a Black director, Black producer, a Black costume designer, a Black stunt choreographer.

“And I’m like, that’s more racist than anything else. Because if you only can hire the Black people for the Black movie, are you saying they’re not good enough when you have a mostly white cast?”
Now, directors of the Avengers franchise – the Russo brothers – have spoken out in favour of Mackie’s comments.
Joe and Anthony Russo recently spoke to MovieMaker about what Mackie was talking about.
“I think we can always all do better at diversity,” said Joe. “Constantly in this business, and in every facet of every industry — so he’s not wrong at all.
Earlier this month Joe Russo spoke out about bringing Wolverine into the upcoming next phase of the MCU.
And while he praised the character, and indeed Hugh Jackman, who played Logan for over ten years, he explained it might not be the right time for him to arrive on screen again.
Speaking to Comic Book Movie, Russo explained: “Wolverine was always one of my favourite characters.
“Incredible Hulk #181 was one of the first comic books that I remember collecting, which was the first appearance of Wolverine.”
