That means the current worldwide total sits at a staggering $643.7million as of Saturday morning.

That total ‘does not include an estimated $82.4M in China on Saturday’, which promises to take that country’s total beyond the $300million mark.

Avengers: Endgame had already broken a box-office record in North America by becoming the first film to gross $140 million in a single day.

The jaw-dropping sum was made in the 24 hours since the movie opened for preview screenings on Thursday afternoon.

The Disney and Marvel production toppled the previous record set by 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $119 million in the same market over the course of a single day, according to Deadline.

Avengers: Endgame opened for general release on Friday morning, but its Thursday previews helped it reach the $140 million mark.

The sneak peak screenings grossed $60 million alone with cinemas staying open all night to cater for huge demand.

On social media, moviegoers shared photos of long lines and packed cinemas right across the country.

In some cities, theaters stayed open all night with several cinemas even offering 4.30am screenings on Friday morning.

After arriving at a session in the wee hours, one fan wrote on Twitter: ‘This theater is f***ing packed at 3am. This is absolutely insane!’
