Avengers’ Chris Evans has has spoken out on whether he’ll ever return to Marvel as Captain America – and it’s not looking likely.

No, we’re totally fine.

The Steve Rogers actor confessed to his co-star Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) for Variety‘s Actor on Actors issue that it’s ‘not a hard no but it’s not an eager yes.’

Chris, who’s starring in Rian Johnson’s comedy thriller Knives Out, continued: ‘There are other things that I’m working on right now. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey.

‘If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together.’

We’ll cling onto that tiny ray of hope, then.

Despite Marvel boss Kevin Feige later admitting he nearly sent Cap to a very gruesome end, the character is seen to have a happy ending in the saga, handing his shield over to Falcon (Anthony Mackie).

And Chris certainly had a good farewell from the series, with an extra clip showing his co-stars waxing lyrical about his time in the MCU.

His Avengers co-stars heaped praise on Chris’ turn as one of the OG Avengers with Scarlett saying she ‘cannot imagine anyone else’ in the role while Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) mused over the years Chris was turning ‘more and more into Cap’.

Chris reflected on his own story as Cap, noting the audience had to fall in love with ‘skinny Steve’, before he’s served the super soldier serum and comes out all flexing muscles and ‘America’s a**’ to win all the wars.

He added of his turn: ‘I’ve had such good fortune.’
