Australia fires: NASA warns of 'EXPLOSIVE' activity and firestorms in New South Wales

According to meteorologist Michael Fromm, at least 20 firestorms were detected in the last week of December 2019.

Although fire clouds are a fairly common occurrence, given the circumstances, the meteorologist said these are some of the worst conditions to date.

With no respite on and more “extreme weather” on the horizon, more of these firestorms are expected to form.

Mr Fromm said: “By our measures, this is the most extreme pyrocumulonimbus storm outbreak in Australia.”

Satellite images show some of the fire clouds pushing smoke up to incredibly high altitudes.
