Aston Villa wages: The STUNNING wage increases several outcasts are due after promotion

After a three-year absence from the top-flight, Dean Smith’s side secured their return to the promised land after beating Derby 2-1 at Wembley.

Winning football’s richest game sees the Midlands club land in excess of £180million which will give their summer budget a major boost.

But also benefiting from the triumph are those Aston Villa players who have barely played a part in sealing promotion.

According to The Mirror, the club’s fringe players and those who have hardly kicked a ball this season are set to net as much as £4million.

The list includes Ross McCormack who Villa signed for £12m in 2016 from Fulham.

Now 32 years old, the striker has spent time away from the club with Nottingham Forest, Melbourne City, Central Coast Mariners and Motherwell, but that won’t stop him from netting a slice of the earnings.

He won’t be the only one either.

Scott Hogan, Gary Gardner, James Bree and Henri Lansbury are also well positioned to be handed a bonus.

Villa took the lead in the first half when Anwar El Ghazi headed home.

John McGinn pounced on a piece of hesitant goalkeeping from Kelle Roos to glance in a second after the interval.

Jack Marriott pulled one back with just ten minutes to play.

But Smith’s side showed resilience to hang onto their lead, securing promotion and after the win, he paid tribute to his father who suffers with dementia.

“I went to see my old man on Friday and I managed to get his eyes open for two minutes maximum. I said, ‘next time I come and see you, I’ll be a Premier League manager’,” he told Sky Sports.

“He smiled, if not anything more. Hopefully there was an understanding but it’s a terrible illness. For me, that was enough.

“The reality is just setting in. The last time I sat here I was not so good as we’d just lost 2-0 in the Checkatrade Trophy final with Walsall.

“Now I am sat here and we’ve won a play-off final and I’m a Premier League manager. It’s a little bit surreal.”
