Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has told Manchester United to forget about signing star midfielder John McGinn.
McGinn is believed to be on a shortlist of players United want to sign over the next two transfer windows as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bids to turn his squad back into a Premier League force.
United host a rampant Liverpool on Sunday looking to recover from their worst league start in 30 years, which has left them in 12th place just two points above the relegation zone.
McGinn could certainly add some attacking flair in midfield, with the 25-year-old having scored three Premier League goals already this season after starring in Villa’s promotion-winning campaign last term.
The Scot also fired a hat-trick in his country’s 6-0 win over San Marino last weekend – and Villa boss Smith said his value has soared since he signed from Hibernian for £2.8million in summer 2018.

However, even if United are prepared to splash the cash, it appears no amount of money will be enough to tempt Villa into selling.
Smith said: “The big clubs can come calling but they’ll get a short, swift reply! He’s a player we want here at Aston Villa.
“His value shot up from the moment he stepped out onto the Villa Park pitch and showed just what a player he is.

“He has an unbelievable energy level and a big, big heart, but people don’t see the technical side of it as well – he’s got that in abundance.”
McGinn is contracted to Villa until July 2024, so the midlands club are under no pressure to sell.
Smith added: “He’s a really top player and pivotal to us getting promoted last season. He’s continued that form in the Premier League and his value would have certainly shot up.”
