Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s loot drops won’t be random

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla won’t force players to grind for the best loot, with loot drops being unique and upgradeable.

The more recent Assassin’s Creed titles, like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, were heavily criticised for how they handled loot drops.

Since everything was random, it meant players were sometimes forced to grind for hours in order to find the best loot, resulting in games that felt extremely bloated.

Ubisoft has already said that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will address this issue, with talk of it being not as long as previous games. Now we have a better understanding of what that means exactly.

In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Ubisoft’s Darby McDevitt, a scriptwriter for the Assassin’s Creed series, revealed that Valhalla’s loot system will work completely differently.

Instead of it being random, any and all loot you find will be completely unique and can be upgraded so it can still be viable for later parts of the game.

‘Every piece of gear is unique in the game and [can be] upgraded extensively so that when you find a piece of gear, you’re excited and you celebrate it, and that can stay with you for quite a long time,’ says McDevitt.

‘It can be viable for quite a long time. So it’s quite a different approach than the previous games took.’

While this sounds like it could help make the game more streamlined, that doesn’t necessarily mean Valhalla will be that much shorter than previous games.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Valhalla’s map will cover the entirety of England and some of Norway, making it the biggest overworld in the series.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia later this year.
