EX-England ace Ashley Cole wants permission to take a chopper to nine trees.
The footballer, 38, has kicked off over pine needles landing in the garden of his mansion.
He feels that the troublesome trees — which are protected by a preservation order — are messing up his landscaped lawns and has sought council approval to chop down the evergreens.
Cole — whose ex-wife Cheryl Tweedy left him in 2010 due to his cheating — has spent £2.4million on the seven-bed pad in Surrey.
In a letter to the local council, the former Chelsea and Arsenal defender’s tree surgeon said: “My customer would like to reduce these trees as they drop a lot of needles and he would like more light.
“The trees are very one-sided as well, a bad reduction has been carried out and the sides have not been touched.”
Planners at Mole Valley council are expected to make a decision later this month. Cole’s move follows his return from the US after a successful stint playing for LA Galaxy.
He joined Derby in January and linked up with Rams boss and former team-mate Frank Lampard.
Last night a source said: “Ashley is looking forward to settling back into Surrey life, and has loads of pals nearby.”
