Ashley Cain has warned people to be ‘cautious’ over the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, after he was left bed-bound with the virus.

The former footballer and reality star revealed that he had suffered breathing problems after contracting Covid-19, but has since been recovering.

Following his illness, Ashley told his fans to ‘enjoy your freedom’ but to be ‘cautious and conscious.’

Sharing a video of himself wading into water to enjoy a swim, the 30-year-old wrote on Instagram: ‘Yesterday was not only England’s freedom day, but the end to my personal isolation after contracting COVID. I personally opted away from clubs, pubs, gatherings and got out in the countryside on a 25 mile bike ride and 20 minute fresh water swim. 🚴🏽🏊🏽‍♂️

‘During my isolation, Covid kept me bed bound for 5 days solid with fever like symptoms, severe cough, head and body aches and a loss of taste and smell which I still hold now. I also developed trouble breathing and extreme tightening of the chest and lungs.

‘A simple 25 mile bike ride and 20 minute swim which I usually complete with ease proved very challenging due to weakness and restricted breathing ability. And I’ve woken up today hardly being able to sit from standing, stand from sitting or climb up or down the staircase. However, mentally it’s the strongest I have felt over the past 10 days by far!’

Going on to speak about the exercise he’s been enjoying, Ashley added: ‘Enjoy your freedom everyone, but still be mindful. Be cautious, be conscious and make an effort to enhance your health and fitness, so you’re in the best possible condition mentally and physically to fight any eventuality that may come your way!’

Many Covid-19 restrictions were lifted in England this week, including mandatory face masks and social distancing.

While cases are currently rising, the majority of adults in the UK have been vaccinated – more than 46million have received their first dose, and more than 36million have had both doses.

Covid-19 vaccines are proven to reduce the likelihood of you getting and spreading the virus.

They can also help keep you from getting seriously ill if you do contract Covid-19.
