Asda is selling PINEAPPLE-FLAVOURED McVities Jaffa Cakes bars

JAFFA Cakes have had a makeover for the summer and gone all tropical on us with a new pineapple-flavoured cake bar.

It’s a shake-up from the traditional orange that you normally get inside the chocolate covered biscuit… or is it a cake?

Either way, you can get your hands on a box of five cake bars for £1 from Asda, according to Instagram food blogger Newfoodsuk who first spotted the treats.

That’s slightly more expensive per bar than regular Jaffa Cakes bars, which currently cost £1.50 for a pack of ten at Asda, making it 15p a bar.

But it’s still fairly cheap at 20p per 24.5g bar, and each bar contains 97 calories, according to the pack.

NHS guidelines say an adult man should eat around 2,500 calories a day while it’s 2,000 for a woman.

It seems you can only buy the tasty treats in store for now, so use Asda’s store locator tool to find your nearest.

And we’ve not spotted the treats being sold online at any other major retailer either.

Newfoodsuk described the cake bars as having the “sweet taste of pineapple” but said this wasn’t overpowering and overall they thought it was “nice”.

But one of his followers commented on the post saying: “It should be illegal to mess with Jaffa Cakes”.

The Sun has asked both Asda and Jaffa Cakes manufacturer McVities to confirm if these details are correct and we’ll update the story as soon as we get a response.

It’s not the only shakeup to Jaffa Cakes in recent months as we’ve seen lemon and lime and strawberry flavours launch.

While McVitie’s now does Jaffa Cakes nibbles too.

But Jaffa Cakes are the latest treat to shrink without supermarkets lowering prices.
