As Kate Middleton and Prince William celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary, why they're a constant reminder of why Britain is so great

Universally there is a massive amount of admiration for the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate, and the Duke of Cambridge, William.

Particularly in this latest episode – the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh – the way that Kate conducted herself, with so much dignity and grace, she was a shining example and an inspiration to all of us. She was the conduit in bringing Harry and William back together. She is most definitely following in the footsteps of her role model, the Queen. Our queen who has been there for us for the over nine decades, and who now needs us, and who has a stellar team in Wills and Kate.

Their story started at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Which was extremely fortunate as they had a life away from constant media scrutiny – the media had agreed to leave William alone during his studies and being in Scotland gave him that extra freedom. They managed to conduct their courtship away from the intensive media lens that the royals are subjected to. Theirs is a family that is arguably the most famous and scrutinised family to ever live.

During their courtship they encountered issues, just as any other young couple in love does, however they managed to work through them, and now ten years, married and three children later, it’s clear that the couple’s love and devotion to one another is stronger than ever. The couples love has grown deeper ahead of their tenth anniversary, a real milestone that cements a relationship. From their fairy-tale wedding that was watched by tens of millions of people around the globe to this milestone, the Duke and Duchess have delighted and inspired us all. They are a model family.

When many marriages have been sorely tested by lockdown and family dramas, theirs has gone from strength to strength. They have weathered two particularly stormy challenges, the Prince Andrew story that has been hitting the headlines, and of course “Megxit” (the Duke and Duchess of Sussex departure from Britain).

Despite the very public family dramas, the Duke and Duchess have continued to carry out their duties in a professional and respectful manner.

They’ve got a solid relationship and she gives him confidence. Kate filled a void in William’s life, she encouraged him to be close with her family – a strong stable middle class family and her parents who have a long enduring marriage – all this gave William what he had been searching for all his life, stability and normalcy.

The Cambridges are not a couple who engage in overly affectionate PDA, therefore when they do use intimate gestures, or show an insight into their marriage, this is generally a matter of great interest.

When it comes to sporting activities the couple are famously competitive, and William is equally famous for his cheeky banter, always goading Kate, however she gracefully and with great dignity sticks to her guns and gives him a good run for his money.

On a recent visit to the Royal cadets, William joked: “This is going to be interesting” and watched Kate take the controls of a light aircraft simulator, saying “I’ll hold your handbag”! as Kate struggled to slip her slim tall frame into the aircraft, she was jubilant when she succeeded.

William is notorious for teasing Kate. On St Patrick’s Day this year, the couple recorded a video message for the people of Ireland, and he teased Kate for having the “easy bit”, she said “Happy St Patrick’s Day” in English and William had to say it in Gaelic. This flirty banter was caught on camera as the couple looked into each other’s eyes, a very intimate moment

In December, last year, during the pandemic, the couple conducted a three day tour visiting England, Wales and Scotland, to show the nation that they were there for us the general public. They showed up, they connected, and they left a lasting impression. On the tour they managed to catch some private moments alone. For example in Wales they toasted marshmallows in an open-air market, they were laughing, smiling and William gently placed his hand on the small of his wife’s back. Just like a normal young couple in love.

Just before the first lockdown, the couple visited Howth cliffs just outside Dublin Bay, once again they managed to capture some private moments, they were pictured cuddling on a walk as they enjoyed the cliffside views.

Their strength lies in the fact that they don’t compete for the limelight, they are happy for each other’s successes, and encourage each other to do better, to be better. True soulmates bring out the best in each other, and this is clearly the case for the Cambridges. Kate brings so much to the relationship, as well as balancing her royal duties, her own projects and raising three young children, she manages to fully support William and work on having a great marriage. Her easy charm and her ability to have an authentic connection with the diverse people from all walks of life, comes across as her major strength.

The Duke and Duchess have always settled any family disputes behind closed doors, and not in the glare of the media and the public. Their synchronicity is more intense than ever, suggesting like-minded thinking, trust and respect.

Their commitment to their family and royal duty is unwavering. Kate and William are a couple who have particularly shone during the worst crisis of our times, the pandemic. Their consistent support and genuine compassion and empathy for front line workers, and charities has been admirable. They show up, they pay attention, they are kind, thoughtful and loving. They have had a positive impact on everyone they encounter. They are a constant reminder of why Britain is so great, and they uphold the Queens values, they are truly inspirational.
