As Julia Roberts makes her long-awaited return to romantic comedy, here are the best rom-coms to fall in love with all over again

Who doesn’t love rom coms? Of all the movie genres to watch, there’s possibly nothing more comforting than a large bowl of popcorn, maybe a face mask and a glass of wine, and your favourite romantic comedy.

And if you haven’t heard, the rom-com genre will be returning to its Julia Roberts roots, as the Hollywood icon is back for a new feel-good romantic movie, Ticket to Paradise. Julia and her co-star George Clooney (it just keeps getting better!) play warring exes who travel to Bali to stop their daughter (played by Kaitlyn Dever) from marrying young and making the same mistake they did 25 years earlier. We are sold!

Universal Pictures

The movie is being released by Universal Pictures on September 16 in the UK, and October 21 in the US. And until you wait for the movie’s release, GLAMOUR has you covered with some of the light-hearted rom-com out there.

You’ll of course find the usual suspects in this list – 10 Things I Hate About You (can you believe that film is 21 years old?!), Eat, Pray, Love and P.S I Love You. And of course, there’s Definitely Maybe. If you don’t already know what it’s about (seriously, you’re in for a treat), the movie stars Ryan Reynolds as a dad in the middle of divorce proceedings who tries to explain his past three relationships to his 11-year-old daughter. She must try and guess which is her mum.

But you’ll also find some of the latest releases that you may not have considered, such as Emma, the modern reimagining of Jane Austen’s beloved romantic comedy, starring Anya Taylor-Joy. Plus, did you know that Netflix have just added Intolerable Cruelty and, a few weeks ago, Midnight in Paris? Yep, do rom-coms get any better than Owen Wilson alongside Rachel McAdams in a nostalgia-themed flick, or George Clooney as a dapper lawyer trying to crush Catherine Zeta-Jones’s crippling divorce suit? It’s rom-com 101.

So here is our list of the best rom-coms out there. Prepare to laugh and cry in equal measure…
