Arsene Wenger predicted that Presnel Kimpembe would be ‘risk’ against Manchester United

Arsene Wenger correctly predicted that Presnel Kimpembe could be a big ‘risk’ before the first leg of Manchester United’s stunning victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

Diogo Dalot’s speculative shot struck Kimpembe’s arm in the 94th minute on Tuesday night and, following a tense VAR review, Marcus Rashford converted the subsequent penalty to book United’s place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

While it’s probably harsh to pin too much of the blame on Kimpembe for PSG’s defeat, many United fans argued that the defender should have been suspended in the first place.

There were calls for Kimpembe to be sent off in the first leg for a reckless challenge on Rashford but the Frenchman remained on the pitch and scored PSG’s second goal at Old Trafford.

Kimpembe got away with it in Manchester but it appears Wenger knew all along that the ‘impulsive’ youngster could cost Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Asked about PSG’s team ahead of the first leg, Wenger told beIN SPORTS: ‘I would say [Tuchel] made two important decisions.

‘The first one is not to play Marquinhos at the back and play Kimpembe. Kimpembe recently had not been convincing in this position because he was too impulsive and made too many fouls.

‘Recently Kimpembe has not been convincing. He is a very promising defender but since January, Paris Saint-Germain a little bit have not convinced.’

Neymar, who missed both legs with a foot injury, slammed the officials’ decision to award United’s last-gasp penalty.

‘That is a disgrace!’ the Brazilian forward said.

‘And UEFA still pick four guys who know nothing about football to review the VAR decision in slow motion… that handball simply doesn’t exist!

‘How do you handball behind your back? Ahh.. go f*** yourselves.’

Tuchel also criticised the decision seeing as Dalot’s shot was off target when it struck Kimpembe’s arm.

‘From my point of view I watched Dalot take the shot. I saw the ball flying straight from his foot and for me it was clear it was going way over the bar,’ PSG’s manager said.

‘There are many things to discuss before taking the decision and I think it’s a 50-50 decision.

‘What makes it super hard is I had the clear feeling the shot was not on target, and to get rewarded with a penalty, there is no logic.’
