Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he is willing to speak to Bayern Munich about the vacant manager’s job and will make a decision over his future in the coming days.

The veteran French coach – who has been out of work since leaving the Emirates in May 2018 – is one of a number of high-profile names linked with the Bayern hot seat following Niko Kovac’s dismissal.

While Wenger is still unsure about whether he will definitely return to coaching, having reportedly been offered a role at FIFA, he told beIN SPORTS that he could be persuaded.

Arsene Wenger’s Bayern Munich exchange in full…

Will you speak to Bayern?

‘I’ll never refuse to talk to Bayern Munich because I know these people who lead the club for 30 years. I was nearly going to Bayern a long, long time ago. At the moment, that’s all I can say.’

Would you like to work at Bayern?

‘Well at the moment I have not talked to them at all.’

Will you talk to them?

‘I don’t know. I don’t know. We have not talked to each other. I don’t know.’

Is it the sort of job that you would want now?

‘Look, I want just to do what I like now. I have not decided yet if I will go back on the pitch or not. I’m quite happy at what I’m doing as well. And I miss the pitch as well. So it’s a difficult decision for me at the moment and I will make that decision in the coming days or in the coming week.’

So you’ll definitely talk to them?

‘I always talk, I just told you. In fact, I talk a lot here – I wonder why!’

At this point, fellow pundit Ruud Gullit pretended to wipe away sweat from Wenger’s forehead, having been given something of a grilling over the Bayern role.

The Frenchman is the current bookies’ favourite to land the coveted job ahead of long-time rival Jose Mourinho, and he could be handed the role until the end of the season when Bayern will look to bring in first choice target Erik ten Hag, who will not leave Ajax midway through the campaign.
