Arsenal transfer target Wilfried Zaha speaks out on big-money Gunners switch

Arsenal saw an initial £40million bid for the Crystal Palace forward rejected but they’re not giving up on a possible deal just yet.

Zaha has made no secret of his desire to play European football, and Arsenal are the only club he wants to join after supporting them as a youngster.

The 26-year-old’s brother gave an impassioned statement to Sky Sports earlier this week outlining Zaha’s desire to leave Selhurst Park, but the player himself is keeping quiet.

He told reporters when asked about his next step: ”I don’t know we’ll see in the future.”

Zaha, who rejoined Palace in 2005 after a disappointing spell at Manchester United, openly discussed his desire to challenge for trophies last season but it was his brother’s interview that attracted the most attention.

Judicael Zaha told Sky Sports News: “Wilfried will always hold Crystal Palace and their fans in the highest regard and all the support they’ve given means the world to him.

“It’s my brother’s dream though, to play for Arsenal.

“Given all Wilfried has given to Palace to help them remain a PL club, I hope Palace will be able to see their way to agreeing a deal with Arsenal.

“That will allow Wilfried to realise his dream of playing European Football for the club he’s supported since childhood.”

Palace chairman Steve Parish has made his stance on the player clear, and was forced to mention the Ivory Coast international’s future in April.

Parish told The Sun: “I don’t want Wilf to leave. We want to progress and the best way of doing that is Wilf in our team.

“At the same time, I know you can get boxed into a corner over these things — but he is on a long contract.”

Palace fans were left disappointed when Zaha spoke out about his transfer stance during last season, and suggested he wanted to leave the club this summer.

He told the Daily Mail in April: “I’m too ambitious. And not ambitious just to play for a top club, but to win things at club level and with the Ivory Coast.

“For me to be better, to achieve what I know I am capable of, I have to aim to play at the very highest level, to win trophies.”

“I’m blessed to have come this far in my playing career. But I feel like there is so much more I have to offer.”
