Arsenal transfer shortlist: Four free agents Edu could sign for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta

Jerome Boateng

After 10 successful years and 229 appearances at Bayern Munich, Jerome Boateng, 32, departed as a club great this summer.

He is yet to decide on his next challenge, but a return to England could be an option if Arsenal target him to replace David Luiz.

With Man United set to sign Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, Arsenal have the opportunity to make a statement signing of their own.

Boateng’s ability to play right-back as well as centre-back could come in handy in Bellerin departs.

Strong and composed in possession, he’d bring a serious desire to win and a level of composure currently alien to Arsenal’s defence.
