Arsenal transfer round-up: Partey contract boost, Aouar bid rejected by Lyon

Arsenal have no time to waste. Mikel Arteta has big plans for the squad at the Emirates Stadium and while there is still time for moves to be made, the clock is ticking.

Gabriel Magalhaes arrived from Lille last week while Dani Ceballos will spend another season in North London on loan from Real Madrid.

The Gunners continue to be linked with potential targets with the future of players like Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette, Emiliano Martinez and Mesut Ozil still to be settled.

Here are three of today’s biggest and most intriguing Tottenham Hotspur transfer stories.

Thomas Partey has turned down a new contract in Madrid

Arsenal handed boost as Atletico Madrid midfielder rejects new contract

Thomas Partey has rejected the offer of a new contract from Atletico Madrid, handing Arsenal a boost in their pursuit of the midfielder.

Marca (via The Sun) claims Atletico Madrid are resigned to losing Thomas this summer, with Espanyol midfielder Marc Roca already lined up as a replacement for the Ghanian.

Arsenal have consistently been linked with a move for Thomas this summer. The 27-year-old is seen as a top target for Arteta, but the player’s £45 million release clause has, until now, posed a problem.

The Gunners could be forced to raise transfer funds through the sale of other players, with the club willing to listen to offers for Matteo Guendouzi, Shokdran Mustafi and Lucas Torreira.

Houssem Aouar has impressed for several seasons at Lyon

Lyon knock back offer from Arsenal for 22-year-old playmaker

Lyon rejected an offer of £31.4 million plus a player from Arsenal for Houssem Aouar, with the Gunners keen to add the playmaker to their squad this summer.

RMC Sport report Arteta is now focusing his efforts on Aouar, who impressed for Lyon in their run to the semi finals of the Champions League last season, having already added Willian to his attacking options this summer.

Arsenal, according to reports, lodged an official offer for Aouar, but that offer was thrown out, with the Ligue 1 outfit holding firm in their higher valuation of the player.

Aouar has been linked with a number of clubs in the Premier League this summer, but the Gunners appear to be most steadfast in their interest in the playmaker who scored nine times and assisted 10 times for Lyon last season.

Arsenal make ‘declaration of intent’ in chase for Portuguese full back

Arsenal have clear their interest in Sporting full back Nuno Mendes with the Premier League club keen to sign the teenager.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (via Sport Witness) claims Arsenal and AC Milan have registered their interest in Mendes, with the latter communicating to Sporting that they would be willing to pay €15 million for the 18-year-old.

On the other hand, Arsenal have only made an initial enquiry in Mendes, who reportedly has a release clause of €45 million in his Sporting contract.

Liverpool and Manchester United are also thought to be tracking the defender, with Sporting holding firm in their stance that they will only sell Mendes if the release clause in his contract is activated.
