Arsenal transfer round-up, Guendouzi options running out after latest rejection

Mikel Arteta will be acutely aware of the need for more transfers in the current window as Arsenal look to build on their fine form since Project Restart.

A bright end to the 2019/20 campaign has now been added to with a Community Shield win over Liverpool and victory on the opening day of the new season against newly-promoted Fulham.

While Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian and Dani Ceballos will all be playing for the Gunners this season, it could be argued that one or two more signings are needed to help get Arteta’s side where they want to be.

His ambitions to bring European football back to the Emirates Stadium may be on the cusp of being realised, but the club’s hierarchy must give Arteta the tools he needs to do that.

Here is today’s Arsenal transfer rumour round-up.

Lyon reject Guendouzi offer

Guendouzi is running out of options

Ligue 1 side Lyon have rejected the opportunity to sign Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to director of football Juninho.

The Arsenal midfielder has been case aside by Arteta since a spat with fellow Frenchman Neal Maupay during a 2-1 defeat earlier this year.

Despite the Gunners making their best efforts to sell the 21-year-old, Lyon appear to be uninterested in acquiring his services.

Juninho told Telefoot Chaine, via the Metro: “Guendouzi was discussed during the call, he is a great player, but he is the wrong profile.

“We are not interested in that at all, we cut the conversation.”

According to The Telegraph, the Gunners’ new No.2 will cost around £2million after Martinez completed his £20m move to Aston Villa earlier this week.

Runarsson is believed to have been brought to Arsenal’s attention by goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana, who previously worked with the 25-year-old in Denmark.

The Iceland international will slot in as the Gunners’ second-choice shot-stopper behind Bernd Leno, who has successfully seen off competition from Martinez.
