Arsenal interim boss Freddie Ljungberg is once again under pressure after the Gunners were blown away by a rampant Manchester City side on Sunday, with Chris Sutton calling for him to be sacked.
The Swedish coach ended a two-month wait for a Premier League win last time out against West Ham, but it proved to only be a brief reprieve as they slumped to yet another defeat as City ran out 3-0 winners.
But the result could have been far more embarrassing for the Gunners, with Kevin De Bruyne running riot – scoring twice and assisting Raheem Sterling – in a pulsating first-half display.
City eased off in the second period, but the home side still failed to register a shot on target since the very first minute of the game and Sutton believes Ljungberg has shown he lacks the expertise required to turn Arsenal’s season around.
‘Manchester City strolled through the game and it was far too easy. There has to be questions asked about Freddie Ljungberg now,’ said Sutton on BBC 5 Live.
‘They are worse than under Emery and they are going backwards. They need to make some decisions quickly and put Ljungberg out of his misery. He looks like a rabbit in the headlights.
‘Get someone in who has some clout. The decision makers will have watched the game and seen the difference in class.
‘We know Manchester City are good but Arsenal should not have been that bad.’
He added: ‘City were ruthless early on. Kevin De Bruyne’s goals were works of art. We know that when they’re on form City are incredible. It was so easy though, they were not pushed at all.
‘It was embarrassing. Arsenal made it too easy. Was there passion from Arsenal? Probably but they just are not that good. How low is Freddie’s bar? That’s why they have to get someone in who has some credibility.’
